Alouette River Management Society (ARMS) welcomed families to the ALLCO Fish Hatchery and Geoff Clayton Rivers Heritage Centre recently for a day of outdoor adventure, learning, and fun.
ALLCO Family Fishing Day, held at the end of June, saw about 50 participants who had the opportunity to learn all about local fish and wildlife.
Participants learned how to fish for rainbow trout with teams from Go Fish BC and the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.
A complimentary lunch was served by volunteers from the Maple Ridge Lions Club.
They met “Small Eyes”, the Northern Spotted Owl ambassador, and learned about the endangered species from the Northern Spotted Owl Breeding Society.
Grace of SeaStar Faces was on site painting faces with favourite sea creatures.
Participants also were introduced to the world of aquatic invertebrates with an ARMS summer student and dedicated volunteer, who helped families explore the tiny creatures that reflect the health of the local waterways.
