B.C. golfer Clairey Lin has won the U.S. Girls’ Junior championship.
Lin, from Langley, defeated Amelie Zalsman of St. Petersburg, Florida, in the 36-hole final at Old Chatham Golf Club on Saturday.

Lin, 16, becomes the second straight Canadian winner. Aphrodite Deng won last year.
In a golfcanada.ca post, Lin called it an “amazing” experience.
“Still haven’t processed it yet, but it’s pretty cool,” said Lin following the win.
“I’ve dreamed of it my entire life. I’ve always wanted to be on the big stage and inspire some people and work hard and see it pay off, and to be able to do that today is amazing.”

Lin, a member of Team Canada NextGen, was the number-1 seed.
Her 13-under 131 score was one shot off the championship record and tied four others with the second lowest stroke-play score in tournament history.

Next on her to-do list is the 112th Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at The Toronto Golf Club, which runs July 21-24 in Mississauga.
In addition to Team Canada athletes, 48 of the top 250 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) will be in the field, with 12 countries represented including numerous tournament winners.
