UPDATE 7:30 a.m.
A semi-truck caused a stoppage on the William R. Bennett Bridge on Sunday night after it caught on fire.
Around 7:30 p.m. on July 26, the Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) responded to a report of a transport truck on fire pulled over northbound on the West Kelowna side of the bridge.
The first responding officer found the truck’s break system was on fire. Crews on scene extinguished the truck, cooling the brakes with a hose line.
However, a small explosion under the trailer occurred, injuring two firefighters. They both suffered minor injuries.
There were no injuries to the truck driver or the public.
KFD responded to the scene with two engines and a command vehicle, totalling nine personnel. The Kelowna RCMP also attended the scene.
UPDATE 8:28 p.m.
One lane of traffic is now travelling northbound on the William R. Bennett Bridge.
According to the DriveBC traffic cameras, the truck pulled over at 7:26 p.m., with the spill starting around 7:40 p.m., when the first fire truck arrived on scene.
Multiple emergency vehicles are on scene.

An apparent liquid has spilled from an semi, closing the William R. Bennett Bridge northbound on Sunday night.
The incident appears to have happened around 8 p.m. on July 26. Major delays are expected as northbound traffic is backed up to nearly Boucherie Road.
It’s unknown what caused the incident but the spilled liquid is pooling on the bridge.
There is also no indication to when the northbound lanes will reopen.
At least three fire trucks are on scene and are also briefly blocking the left lane southbound on the bridge.
It’s unknown if anyone is injured at this time.

Planned bridge maintenance is also set to start at 9 p.m., causing a lane closure.
