A Coquitlam man is facing multiple firearms charges following an investigation and searches by B.C.’s anti-gang police.
Saadiq Azimali Daya, 35, was arrested July 16 at a Coquitlam property, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit announced Friday (July 31). Police also searched a property in Surrey.
He was arrested without incident, police said.
During the search in Coquitlam, officers seized multiple firearms including a Beretta 92FS .22 and a Beretta M9A3 9 mm.
Daya is now facing six firearms-related charges:
• Two counts of possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm (a Beretta 92FS .22 and a Beretta M9A3 9 mm) without being the holder of the required authorization, licence and registration certificate
• Two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm at a location other than one authorized under the Firearms Act
• Two counts of storing a restricted firearm (a Beretta 92FS .22 and a Beretta M9A3 9 mm) contrary to the Storage, Display, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations made under the Firearms Act
Daya remains in custody and is scheduled to next appear in court on Aug. 10.
It was in June, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit’s firearm enforcement team launched an investigation with the Surrey RCMP Provincial Operations Support Unit to execute an arrest warrant for Daya in connection to the multiple charges.
