Maple Ridge Burrards drop to second with another loss to Shamrocks

The Maple Ridge Burrards dropped to second place in the Western Lacrosse Association, after an 11-9 loss to the Victoria Shamrocks on Sunday, June 21.

At the midpoint of the 18-game season, the Burrards have six wins and three losses, while the Shamrocks are alone in first at 8-1.

The contest was tied 3-3 after the first period, but Victoria won the second frame 5-1 to take over the contest. Their power play scored three times in four opportunities.

Burrards scoring leader Marcus Klarich led his team with four goals and two assists, while team captain Tyler Pace also had six points on a goal and five helpers. Riley Loewen had two goals and two assists, and Garret Winter and Drew Andre each had a goal and an assist.

The Burrards have not been able to put all their talent on the floor against the Shamrocks through their last two losses, as they were missing Klarich in their June 12 loss, and were without a different key offensive contributor in Payton Cormier on Sunday.

The next game for the Burrards is on Saturday, when they take on the third-place Adanacs (5-3) in a key game in Coquitlam. Then they get another shot at the Shamrocks on Sunday, June 28, in their last meeting of the year. That game goes at 5 p.m. at Cam Neely Arena.
