Maple Ridge conservation group hosts hatchery tour and salmon fry release

The Alouette River Management Society (ARMS) is hosting an upcoming hatchery tour and fry release event at the Allco Fish Hatchery.

The Chinook Journey is coming up on May 23, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the hatchery at 24959 Alouette Rd.

The public is invited to experience the incredible journey of Pacific salmon with a guided behind-the-scenes hatchery tour led by ARMS staff. Visitors will learn about the fascinating life cycle of Pacific salmon at every stage, from egg incubation and fry development to their migration to the ocean and eventual return home to spawn.

The highlight of the event will be the opportunity to help release young Chinook salmon fry into the South Alouette River, sending them off on the first step of their journey to the Pacific Ocean.

“This family-friendly event is a great opportunity to connect with local waterways, learn about salmon conservation, and experience a hands-on moment in the life of one of British Columbia’s most iconic species,” said spokesperson Sophie Sparrow.

This event will be done by registration and will be capped at 25 attendees. If you would like to attend, please register at zeffy.com/en-CA/ticketing/chinook-journey-hatchery-tour-and-fry-release.
