A wildfire west of Chehalis Lake remains out of control on Monday morning, growing from 0.4 hectares to 1.4 hectares overnight.
According to the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS), the wildfire – called the Blacklock Creek Fire – remains out of control after it was discovered on Sunday morning about seven kilometres southwest of Chehalis Lake. An initial attack crew and an officer were fighting the fire with air support from one helicopter on Sunday. As of Monday morning, another helicopter and a second initial attack crew has arrived on the scene to battle the fire.
No structures are currently in danger and no evacuation alerts or orders are in place. The fire is believed to be human-caused.
As of Monday at 9:30 a.m., there are 30 active wildfires in B.C., 9 of which started in the past 24 hours. Three fires have been declared out in the last 24 hours, and 33 have been extinguished in the past week.
