In a pre-game interview about the first Salish Sea Derby of 2026, Vancouver FC attacker Mohamed Amissi was optimistic about the Sunday match with Pacific FC at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria.
“We know that it’s a big game the Derby, but we like this,” Amissi said.
“This is why you start to play football for these kind of games, and I’m sure we will do good and score some goals.”
Amissi backed up his words with action, 36 minutes into the game, when he fired one home on a cross from Morey Doner to draw first blood.

Then, at 60 minutes, Terran Campbell got his first of the game to make it 2-0 for the Eagles.
Eighteen minutes later, Pacific’s Sami Keshavarz got one past Callum Irving to make it 2-1, but Campbell got his second of the game to make it 3-1, just four minutes later.
That was still the final score at the end, and the Eagles have notched their first win of the season.
With both teams sitting in the league’s bottom spots through four matchweeks, it had been expected to be a fiercely contested match between the only two teams in the league who are still searching for their first win.
It was a homecoming for Vancouver FC head coach Martin Nash, who grew up in Victoria before heading to the mainland to begin his pro career with the Vancouver 86ers.
After a heartbreaker of a tie in stoppage time against Ottawa last weekend, Nash saw it as a positive sign after three back-to-back losses.
“We all feel we’re heading in the right direction, but now it’s time we gotta start picking up three points and to start moving up the table.” Nash said pre-game.
“The good thing about this league is that if you can win a couple of games in row you just go right back up the table.”
Next up for the Eagles, a Mother’s Day match against Langley United in the preliminary round of the Voyageurs Cup, the top professional soccer prize in Canada, at the Stadium at Langley Events Centre on Sunday, May 10, at 3 p.m
