LETTER: Time coming to remind council, staff to whom they’re accountable

Dear Editor,

I really liked Marie Robson’s letter to the editor: Politician’s need to be held accountable, April 3, The News.

How important is this?

Politician’s get elected every four years, and it seems that within this short time frame they tend to get a wee bit cocky in their attitudes.

Yes, we the voter’s have the ability to toss them out at the end of this mandate; but a little humility is order during their time in office.

I attended a city council meeting last year, and dared to mention that all city departments and staff should be looking at way to cut costs and save the taxpayers money. Wow, how dare I ask this?

Well, you should have seen the faces of some of these managers and staff when I suggested this.

What’s so terribly wrong with suggesting that the cities staff and elected officials should be looking at ways to save our tax dollars?

Isn’t that what we elected them to do? Isn’t that one of their responsibilities?

Well, we’ll have an election in the fall to remind them of just this issue.

Please get out and make your voices heard!
