A group who calls themselves the Craft Ladies have donated thousands to the Ridge Meadows Seniors Society, (RMSS), and other local deserving groups.
Mary Koenders, 86, chairman of the Ladies Tuesday Craft Group, who meet out of the RMSS Maple Ridge Seniors Activity Centre location, said they raised $4,000 from sales of their crafts throughout last year, which they donated to the seniors Society.
In addition they raised another $3,000 which they donated $1,000 each to: the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation; the Friends In Need Food Bank; and to a service dog training organization.
“We just do it to support the centre,” said Koenders.
There are about 40 people who are a part of the group. About 18 to 24 show up regularly for the Tuesday craft group. But, others will show up once in while with a bag full of donations.
Mostly they knit, but there are also people who quilt, sew, and needlepoint.
The craft group usually has three sales a year, in addition to items in the main display case at the centre which are for sale all year round.
Money donated to the Ridge Meadows Seniors Society will go towards supporting different programs, outreach, and services, at the centre.
