Emergency responders rushed to Macken Avenue in Chilliwack on Friday morning for a haz-mat call involving several young children.
It turned out the children who were at a nearby daycare were exposed to chemical residues from a pepper-spray incident the night before in Portage Park.
The call came in at about 11 a.m. as a possible chemical exposure from an unknown source, with Chilliwack Fire Department and B.C. Ambulance Service personnel attending the scene to investigate, and tend to the young victims.
When crews arrived they determined there was no obvious source of the contamination but upon further investigation it was determined there had been a bear-spray incident reported on April 16.
