A little more than $50,000 was given to the cities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows for emergency operations centres.
The provincial government provided Maple Ridge with $26,600 for supplies, essentials training and exercise design and facilitation to build emergency operations centre capability.
Pitt Meadows received $26,100 for section equipment, training and exercise to build comprehensive emergency operation centre capacity.
Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows MLA Lisa Beare said the funding will ensure that both communities are best prepared when disaster strikes.
“Especially as we see an increase in fires, floods, and other emergencies affecting our region,” noted Beare.
“Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Katzie Nation, and the Fraser Valley Regional District will all benefit from funding to help improve equipment, training, and supplies,” said the MLA.
Fraser Valley Regional District received $30,000 for emergency operation centre and ICS training and kit materials to build staff capacity and readiness.
Emergency operations centres coordinate people, actions and resources, and support first responders on the ground. They also ensure people receive timely information, emergency support services, and other vital assistance throughout an emergency.
The Province is providing approximately $3.5 million for 110 projects to support local emergency operations centres through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.
Through this fund, since 2017, more than $25 million has supported more than 820 projects throughout the province.
