Pitt Meadows to host information session for city council candidates

There is an upcoming meeting for those considering running for Pitt Meadows city council in the 2026 municipal election this October.

A candidate information session is being held on Thursday, July 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall, where would-be local politicians can learn about nominations, key election dates, council responsibilities and current priorities in Pitt Meadows. A reservation is required, and can be made online at pittmeadows.ca.

There will also be a candidate and community engagement workshop on Monday, Aug. 10 – a free session for residents and prospective candidates, led by local governance expert Christina Benty.

To be eligible to run for local office, a candidate must:

• Be 18 years of age or older on general voting day (Oct. 17, 2026).

• Be a Canadian citizen.

• Be a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately prior to being nominated.

• Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting are being elected to office.

Candidates do not need to reside within the municipality in which they are seeking office.

The nomination period begins at 9 a.m. on Sept. 1, and closes at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11.

The city is served by one mayor and six councillors.
