Wild Bar returns to UBC Research Forest in Maple Ridge

UBC’s Malcolm Knapp Research Forest is going to host a Wild Bar.

Not a dancing-on-the-tables wild, but an out-in-nature wild. They call it a cocktail bar in the forest, and it’s part of the Wild and Immersive series of programming. The event goes on July 18 with starting times of 4 p.m., 5 p.m. or 6 p.m.

The public is invited to join for a summer evening drink under the forest canopy. From Swallow Tail Tours, chef and sommelier Robin Kort’s summer wild harvest will be extracted into syrups, tonics, and bitters to make an immersive forest cocktail menu. A ticket includes the cocktail of your choice and a relaxing discussion in the forest with a wildcraft expert on foraging for food in the forest and forest ecology.

The cocktail men includes:

• Wild G&T

• Savage Sour

• Tinto de Verano

• Magnolia Shrub and Soda

Foraged ingredients will be added to these base cocktails depending on what the season offers, from wild flowers to aromatic leaves and roots

Additional cocktails will be available to purchase, along with wine by the glass. Edna’s non- alcoholic cocktail can be substituted for your cocktail if you wish.

Bring a sun hat, and good walking boots. Must be 19 or over, and cost is $48.15 plus GST.
