Thousands of people packed Memorial Peace Park on Wednesday, July 1, to celebrate Canada Day in style.
Festivities were expanded this year with extended hours and three stages of live entertainment, cultural performances, family activities, food trucks and soccer festivities. The ACT Arts Centre showcased family entertainment, performances and activities.
This year the festivities began at 2 p.m. instead of 10 a.m., and the reason being was the city wanted people to stay in the community to celebrate.
“All you have to do is take a look around. People love this stuff. They love being next to each other, the music, the bands. This is how you build a community,” said City of Maple Ridge Mayor Dan Ruimy.
Entertainment was scheduled throughout the evening with award-winning country singer Madeline Merlo headlining the main stage.
