City installs new bike repair stations around Pitt Meadows

If your bike gets a flat tire or needs some other repair while you are cycling in Pitt Meadows, a solution is likely close by.

City hall has announced new network of publicly accessible bike repair stations installed across the community, thanks in part to Amazon, which contributed $35,000 toward the initiative.

“Improving active transportation infrastructure supports council’s priorities for connected, healthy and sustainable communities,” said Nicole MacDonald. “These bike repair stations are a valuable addition to our growing trail and cycling network, and projects like this help reinforce Pitt Meadows’ reputation as Canada’s most livable small city. Amazon’s support reflects a shared commitment to community well-being and sustainable transportation, and we appreciate their continued partnership and investment in Pitt Meadows.”

The self-serve bike repair stations provide residents and visitors with access to basic tools needed for on-the-go repairs. Each station will include tools for maintaining and repairing bicycles, as well as scooters, e-scooters and strollers, helping users stay mobile while commuting, recreating or travelling along city routes. Tools are securely mounted using stainless steel cables and tamper-resistant fasteners, making them suitable for high-use public locations.

The five bike repair stations are located at:

• Shoreline Park along the Pitt River Regional Greenway

• Pitt Meadows Athletic Park

• Civic Centre

• Harris Road Park

• Menzies Park

The announcement coincides with Go By Bike Week, also known as Bike to Work Week, which happens May 30 to June 5 this year.

“This project supports several of the city’s long-term planning initiatives, including the Climate Action Strategy, Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan, Active Transportation Plan and Complete Communities Assessment,” said CAO Mark Roberts.

“By making cycling and other low-impact transportation options more convenient and accessible, the city is helping reduce reliance on cars, lower greenhouse gas emissions and encourage healthy, sustainable travel choices.”
