A man suspected of stabbing two people in Surrey was shot dead by police on Friday (May 29) near Holland Park.
Surrey Police Service officers were called to a tower in the 13300-block of Old Yale Road on Friday afternoon at about 1 p.m. for a reported assault.
After arriving, police located one person suffering from stab wounds, according to a press release from the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO).
SPS officers made their way to Holland Park, where a second person was also found suffering from stab wounds.
Police also found the suspect, a man who was identified by witnesses as having been involved in the assaults.
The man got into what SPS described as a “confrontation” with police. After what the IIO refers to as an “interaction” with officers, the man was shot by police. He was taken to hospital with injuries but later pronounced dead.
Officers and paramedics provided aid to the stabbing victims, but one of the people suffering from stab wounds was pronounced dead. The other was taken to a hospital with injuries.
The IIO, B.C.’s independent police watchdog, investigates all incidents involving police officers that end in serious harm or death.
The IIO asks that any witnesses who have information about the incident to contact the IIO at the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
