More than 1,000 people showed up to the Maple Ridge RCMP’s free open house event on Saturday, May 9.
They saw police officers, vehicles and equipment, as well as many interative booths, games and prizes.
“We were thrilled by the amazing turnout and enjoyed answering residents’ questions about some of the resources, tools, and techniques we use to ensure public safety,” said Insp. Martin Guay. “Most importantly, this event is an opportunity to strengthen our connection with the community that we are so proud to serve.”
The RCMP opened their doors to the public to help kick-off National Police Week and celebrate the detachment’s new name and long-standing commitment to the community.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage with many different officers and learn about police operations, as well as get a sneak peak inside the jail cells and speak to partner agencies.
On April 1, the former integrated Ridge Meadows RCMP Detachment transitioned to two fully autonomous detachments, serving the City of Maple Ridge and the City of Pitt Meadows. The former Ridge Meadows Detachment facility was renamed as the Maple Ridge RCMP Detachment, and retains the same address and non-emergency contact information.
