Maple Ridge RCMP to host open house

There’s an upcoming opportunity to see the Maple Ridge RCMP cells without breaking the law.

The Maple Ridge RCMP is hosting an open house for the public coming up on Saturday, May 9, from noon to 3 p.m., to celebrate the launch of the Maple Ridge detachment. Following Pitt Meadows getting an autonomous RCMP detachment of its own, the detachment at 11990 Haney Pl. went from being Ridge Meadows to Maple Ridge only.

Local police ask the public to register in advance for a Junior Jailbreak Tour and sneak peak at the jail cells. Tours last 15 minutes, and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Admission is free and there will be booths and displays featuring police dog services, RCMP vehicles, the tactical troop, forensic services, community and partner booths, food trucks and more.

There will be a Hero Hunt scavenger hunt, and participants can visit booths, collect stickers, complete their scavenger hunt card, and submit the finished card for a chance to win a prize.
