Maple Ridge peace group to host community picnic

A group dedicated to seeking peace and justice throughout the world is hosting a community Peace Picnic.

People are invited to bring their own picnic basket, said group member Oosha Ramsoondar, and mingle with others to celebrate the importance of peace.

Live entertainment will feature local sings and songwriters. In addition there will be a singalong of familiar songs about justice and peace.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear about the experiences of a person who recently returned from a prominent conflict zone.

Board game lovers will be able to try a new game called “Cards against Dehumanization.”

“Most people want peace, but our media and politicians more often talk about war. Events like this picnic are a way to connect with others and our own feelings and values,” said Ramsoondar.

The Maple Ridge community Peace Picnic takes place on Saturday, August 8 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the CEED Centre, 11739 223 Street.

Admission is free, all are welcome.
