With a 9-5 win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies, the Maple Ridge Burrards wrapped up their regular season schedule in the Western Lacrosse Association on Tuesday night, July 28, and now get set for the playoffs.
The Burrards held the ‘Bellies to just one goal in each of the first two periods, and held a 7-1 lead late in the second. The game’s first star was Marcus Klarich, as the team’s leading scorer tallied four goals and two assists. That gives him 39 goals and 85 points, which is good for second in the WLA.
Defender Brayden Laity had three assists for the Burrards, giving him 10 on the season and the third star selection.
Payton Cormier had a goal and two helpers, and established himself as a finisher with 24 goals and 43 points in 11 games. Drew Andre, Ries Bower, Garret Winter and Jon Phillips also scored for Ridge.
The Burrards finish the season with a record of 13 wins and five losses, good for second place in the league standings. They start a post-season run at the Mann Cup national championship against the Coquitlam Adanacs, with a best-of-five series on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Cam Neely Arena, at 7:30 p.m.
The first-place Victoria Shamrocks will face the Nanaimo Timbermen in the other WLA semi-final.
