The Kelowna RCMP recently executed a search warrant at a senior living complex, leading to the arrest of a man with an outstanding provincial-wide warrant.
In early July, the Kelowna RCMP’s Target Team started to investigate a problem residence with the seniors housing building in the 800-block of Jones Street. The investigation began after multiple reports from the community, which were supported by the RCMP after observing the neighbourhood.
According to the RCMP, the occupants of the unit in question were “contributing to significant public safety concerns” and not complying with City of Kelowna property standards. Police also witnessed a high volume of foot traffic entering and leaving the residence over the first couple weeks of July.
On Saturday, July 18, the Target Team, assisted by the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant on the residence. During the search, officers arrested one individual on an outstanding B.C.-wide warrant.
Additionally, several weapons, including a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and quantities of controlled substances were found and seized.
“Police operations initiated in response to concerns reported by the public not only support criminal and bylaw investigations but also help make our communities safer and allow residents to better enjoy their properties,” said Sergeant Guillaume Tanguay of the Kelowna RCMP Proactive Enforcement Unit. “We encourage residents to continue reporting suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.”
The RCMP’s investigation remains ongoing while the City of Kelowna’s property Standards Compliance Team has cited several bylaw violations and deficiencies at the property.
