A Chilliwack teen who allegedly had a firearm on the SkyTrain was arrested on Saturday (July 18).
The incident happened around 5:25 p.m. when the Vancouver Police Department were called to report from the Nanaimo SkyTrain station of someone with a firearm on the train.
“A teenager allegedly exposed a firearm to a passenger before boarding an eastbound train,” VPD stated in a July 21 press release.
Police immediately broadcasted the suspect’s description to regional law enforcement partners.
Metro Vancouver Transit Police assisted VPD in arresting the boy. Transit Police officers found him at Edmonds SkyTrain station where they took him into custody on the platform.
A subsequent search revealed he was carrying a replica firearm and a knife. He was transferred to VPD custody and taken to jail. He has since been released and is facing a charge for weapons possession, VPD added.
Police later confirmed the boy is from Chilliwack.
“We would like to thank Metro Vancouver Transit Police for assisting in the apprehension of a dangerous suspect,” said Constable Darren Wong. “Replica gun or not, this was potentially a very dangerous situation that could have ended much differently.”
No one was injured in the arrest.
