Kelowna MP hangs with the kids to announce Canada Child Benefit increase

To support families across the country, the federal government announced an increase is coming July 20 to the Canada Child Benefit.

The tax-free payment provides families with up to $8,157 per child under the age of 6 and up to $6,883 per child aged 6 to 17.

The increase for families receiving the full benefit is an additional $160 per child under age 6 and $135 per child aged 6 to 17 compared to the previous year. The amount received is calculated through household income and the number and age of children in the home.

To celebrate the announcement, Kelowna MP Stephen Fuhr spent the morning of July 17 at the BGC North Glenmore Club chatting with staff and hanging out with the kids.

“There’s a wide range of things the government is doing to provide relief to families today while we provide opportunities for tomorrow,” Fuhr said.

The Canada Child Benefit supports an estimated 17,000 children in B.C. and an estimated six million across the country.
