A man in his late 20s has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for extortion-related offences in Surrey that date back to 2024.
Abjeet Kingra pleaded guilty in Surrey provincial court on July 6 to discharging a firearm into a place and arson of an inhabited property. He was sentenced to two years for the arson charge and four years, 10 months and 19 days for the firearms charge. The sentences will be served concurrently.
The shooting and arson occurred on Aug. 10, 2024, in Surrey at the home of a “person who had received extortion threats,” RCMP said at the time.
BC Prosecution Service charged Kingra and Vikram Sharma with discharge of a firearm with intent and arson on Oct. 6, 2025. Sharma is still wanted for these charges and several in relation to a West Shore RCMP investigation.
Abjeet Kingra was in custody at the time for a different incident.
A spokesperson for the BC Prosecution Service told the Now-Leader Tuesday (July 15) that Kingra was not credited for any time he served behind bars before his sentence.
He was also given a mandatory lifetime firearms prohibition and a DNA order.
