The Maple Ridge Burrards had their big guns firing as they beat the New Westminster Salmonbellies 12-8 on Thursday night (July 9) at Queen’s Park Arena.
Western Lacrosse Association scoring leader Marcus Klarich had a goal and four assists, team captain Tyler Pace scored a hat trick and added two helpers, and wiley vet Riley Loewen also had a hat trick and an assist, in a game the Burrards mostly controlled.
Five straight goals in the first period gave them a 7-3 lead at the end of that frame. New West cut into the lead, getting within a goal at 9-8, but the Burrards got an insurance marker from Drew Andre, and empty netters from Nathan Miller and Ries Bower to put the game away.
Brandon Humphrey got the win in goal for the Burrards, as he made 36 saves on 44 shots. It was his first win of the season, as he has mostly backed up outstanding rookie netminder Jack Kask.
Former Burrard Dylan Mcintosh had three goals and two assists for the ‘Bellies.
They sit in second place in the WLA with nine wins and four losses.
With five games left in the season, the Burrards will be in Nanaimo on Saturday to face the Timbermen, and then play three of their last four at home in Cam Neely Arena. On Tuesday, July 14, they will host the Salmonbellies for a rematch, at 7:30 p.m.
