Smoke from wildfire near Boston Bar fills Okanagan skies

Smoke from two wildfires burning north of Boston Bar can be seen above the west side of Okanagan Lake.

Several people took to social media Saturday evening to report a large plume of smoke in the hills above Westside Road.

The Brunswick Creek fire was first reported on July 2 and is now estimated at 100 hectares and is burning out of control.

The Fraser Valley Regional District has issued an evacuation alert for approximately four properties on Chaumox Road, north of North Bend in Electoral Area A, due to the blaze.

According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the Boston Bar Fire Department is on scene along with three initial attack crews, two unit crews, and two response officers, who are supported by three helicopters and heavy equipment.

The fire continues to burn at a rank 1-2 ( a low smouldering ground fire, to a low-vigour surface blaze).

Strong wind gusts have impacted the fire behaviour, causing increased smoke in the area.

Highway 1 is currently not affected by this blaze.
