Maple Ridge adds another World Cup watch party this Saturday

There will be another World Cup soccer viewing party in Memorial Peace Park this Saturday, July 4, as Team Canada faces an elimination game against their toughest opponent yet.

The City of Maple Ridge is hosting an additional game after Canada advanced to the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup, following a dramatic 93rd-minute victory over South Africa.

Canada will take on Morocco, ranked sixth in the world, at 10 a.m., and fans can the big game on a big, 20-foot screen.

The city is encouraging residents to wear red and white, bring their family and friends, and enjoy the match in the heart of the community.

The July 4 watch party expands the city’s lineup of free viewing events. More are coming:

• July 14 (semi-final), noon, Memorial Peace Park

• July 15 (semi-final), noon, The ACT Arts Centre

• July 19 (final), noon, Memorial Peace Park

Those attending are invited to take part in the Game On Passport, an interactive promotion that rewards participants for exploring local businesses and attractions until July 31. By scanning QR codes at participating locations, participants can earn entries for weekly prizes and a grand prize while supporting the local economy.
