Joseph “Joe” Emery Tompkins

July 18, 1953 – May 1, 2026

Joseph “Joe” Emery Tompkins passed away on May 1, 2026, in New Westminster, BC, following injuries sustained in a pedestrian-vehicle accident in Abbotsford.

Born in Oshawa, Ontario, to Phil and Helen Tompkins, Joe graduated from Vernier High School in 1971 and attended Durham College. After moving to BC in the 1970s, he worked nearly 20 years as a press operator before becoming a long-haul truck driver in 2001, retiring in 2022.

Joe met his wife, Lorraine, while coaching women’s softball. They raised their children, Sheldon and Trylia. A prostate cancer survivor, he volunteered with Archway Community Services’ Lunch With The Bunch program and delivered newspapers in Abbotsford.

Predeceased by his wife, Lorraine, Joe is survived by his children, six siblings, half-sister, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held July 11, 2026, at Lions Senior Hall, Fort Langley, BC. Cremation was handled by Woodlawn Funeral Home, Abbotsford.
