A movie about a widow who bonds with a clever octopus starring Oscar Award winner Sally Field was filmed – in part – in Maple Ridge.
According to Netflix in Your Neighbourhood, which lists films and the locations where the movies were filmed, the movie “Remarkably Bright Creatures” was filmed at The Wolf Bar along Lougheed Highway.
The movie was based on the bestselling novel of the same title by Shelby Van Pelt that explores the themes of grief, friendship, and connection.
Directed by Olivia Newman, the story follows a widow who forms a bond with a giant pacific octopus and a wayward young man who comes to town in search of family.
The Wolf Bar, a longtime, local hangout for late-night live music enthusiasts, and for casual drinks, provided the perfect, welcoming neighbourhood feel.
It was the backdrop for a heartfelt scene in the movie where Cameron, played by Lewis Pullman, finally shares his music at the local bar with Tova, played by Field, in attendance.
In addition to Maple Ridge, the production filmed throughout British Columbia, including Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Richmond, and Lions Bay.
