Vancouver Bandits coach Kyle Julius has been handed a three-game suspension by the league after an incident with a fan during the June 18 game against Winnipeg Sea Bears, a game that saw Winnipeg win 114-81.
Julius was initially handed an indefinite suspension after the confrontation.
A statement issued Wednesday, June 24 confirmed Julius would be back.
“Following a thorough review, the Canadian Elite Basketball League has suspended Vancouver Bandits Head Coach Kyle Julius for three games in response to an incident involving a fan at the CEBL game on June 18.
Julius has served one game of the suspension and will serve the remaining two games.”
Video of the incident appeared to show a shoving match involving the fan, Julius, and at least one other team member.
Bandits forward Mitch Creek praised Julius and condemned the incident during a post-game interview broadcast two days later, following the team’s 102-81 win over the Hamilton Honey Badgers at Langley Events Centre.
“A lot of distractions the last 48 hours,” Creek commented.
“What happened a couple of days ago was unacceptable, on multiple people’s parts.”
Creek gave Julius a shout-out, saying “this organization is what it is because of him. Everyone loves him.”
Noting Julius was watching the game from home, Creek added, “we can’t wait to have you here again.”
Julius, 2024 CEBL coach of the year, was initially signed by the Bandits in 2019.
During the 2020 CEBL season, Julius led the Bandits to the CEBL championship game, where they ultimately fell to the Edmonton Stingers in the final 90–73.
The Bandits re-signed Julius to a contract extension on Oct. 7, 2022.
