The Pitt Meadows Farmers Market is back, every Tuesday at Spirit Square (11985 Harris Rd.).
New manager Sharon Grogan said there is a lot going on at the market. Next week brings Pet Day, with a pet parade, and prizes awarded for champions – like the fluffiest dog, the best trick, and more.
The market is involved with the first ever Pitt Meadows Blueberry Festival this year, which will be held on Sunday, Aug. 9. There are also plans for a Heat and Harvest day, with the emphasis on spicy tastes that will be on offer, and hopefully the weather.
And there will be other special promotions through the summer.
The Gourmet Grub food truck is there every Tuesday, and there is always live, mostly local entertainment. Steve Jensen vocals and guitar had a little girl up and dancing on a sunny second week of the market.
Grogan explained people attend the market to visit with neighbours, enjoy the sunshine, and be part of their community.
“This location has a loyal following, and people come back just for the atmosphere,” said Grogan.
Jodi Campbell, who sells sweet concoctions in her Jars by Jodi business, is in her third year at the market, and said it is popular with local people.
“The best way I would describe this market is community,” she said. “People pop in and enjoy themselves.”
There are generally about 40 vendors selling craft cookies, flowers, artisan barbecue sauce, treats, natural pet food, and much more.
New business 102 Sourdough Bakery of Port Coquitlam is bringing their artisan sourdough bread to the market, and proprietor Maryanne said she enjoys meeting new customers.
“It’s our first year at the market, and it’s been great,” she said.
The market is run by the Fraser North Farmers Market Society, which also operates the Haney and Port Coquitlam markets.
It will be open every Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., until the last Tuesday market on Sept. 29.
