One inmate took an unexpected trip to the hospital on June 18 after being the victim of an assault at Matsqui Institution.
The assistant warden of management services, Amrit Hothi, said only one person was injured in the incident at the medium-security penitentiary.
After being evaluated by prison staff, the inmate was transported to the hospital for further treatment and has since returned to the Matsqui Institution.
“The assailants have been identified, and the appropriate actions have been taken,” said Hothi.
“In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures.”
