Dear Editor,
I would like to raise concerns regarding increasing noise levels in residential areas of Maple Ridge, particularly during the summer months.
Residents are regularly exposed to excessive noise from modified motorcycles, vehicles with altered mufflers, loud music, speeding traffic, and, at times, late-night vehicle backfiring.
While emergency sirens and normal traffic are understandable aspects of urban life, the cumulative impact of these other noise sources is significantly affecting residents’ ability to enjoy their homes and neighbourhoods.
I am seeking clarification on the regulations and enforcement measures currently in place regarding residential noise levels. Specifically:
• What municipal bylaws govern excessive vehicle and neighbourhood noise?
• How are these regulations enforced?
• What options are available to residents who wish to address ongoing noise concerns?
Many residents value a reasonable balance between necessary transportation activity and the right to enjoy peaceful use of their property.
I believe this issue warrants community discussion and would welcome input from local officials and fellow residents.
