Widow alleges negligence by Oliver motorsports track in West Kelowna man’s death

The widow of a West Kelowna man killed in a crash at Area 27 Motorsports Park in 2024 has filed a civil suit alleging negligence to maintaining safety for track users.

Keri Roach was pregnant with their first child when her husband, Conor Roach, struck a barrier while driving on the track in Oliver on June 5, 2024. Conor died as a result of the crash.

Roach names the motorsports park as well as the Osoyoos Indian Band, Skaha Ford Inc., Evolution Auto, an unidentified company, and a driving instructor from the track whose identity is unknown.

The suit claims the track failed to maintain safe conditions, provide and maintain safety barriers, warn track users of any hazards or dangerous conditions, have adequate supervision and instruction of users, ensure vehicles are in appropriate conditions for the track, and ensure the track was safe for ammeter drivers.

Roach is seeking special and general damages for the loss of her husband. The suit states the defendants had a duty of care for Conor as a track user and they failed him.

The passenger in Conor’s vehicle also died at the scene.

None of the defendants have filed a response.

The damages Keri is seeking is unspecified.

The allegations have yet to be proven in court.
