Maple Ridge recognizes retiring RCMP detachment commander

Maple Ridge city council said an official goodbye to outgoing Maple Ridge RCMP officer in charge Supt. Adam Gander.

The retiring Gander appeared at the council meeting on Tuesday, June 9, and was recognized for his career that started in 2001 at the Ridge Meadows detachment.

“It us quite remarkable that he began his service here as a new officer, and 25 years later retired as the officer in charge of that same detachment,” noted Mayor Dan Ruimy.

“Throughout those years Adam build a reputation for professionalism, integrity and steady leadership.”

Over his career Gander served in a number of roles, including general duty, school liaison, the Serious Crime Unit, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, and in leadership roles.

Gander said the retirement is bittersweet.

“I knew the day I left I still loved it, because I got all emotional when all the members were out front, and I know a lot of city staff was there too,” said Gander. ” So I’m kinda going out on a high, and that’s the way I wanted to do it.”

Council presented him with framed badges for the RCMP, Maple Ridge Fire & Rescue, bylaws, and community safety officers.

“Adam, on behalf of council and the City of Maple Ridge, thank you for your 25 years of service, for your leadership, and for the care that you have shown this community throughout your career.”
