Maple Ridge councillor gets driving ban, fine for driving while prohibited

Maple Ridge city councillor Ahmed Yousef has been given a one-year driving ban and $1,200 in fines for driving while prohibited.

He pleaded guilty to one charge on June 5, and the Crown dropped another, ordering a stay of proceedings. Those offences date back to January of 2025.

Yousef, whose full name is Ahmed Antar Yousef Mohamed, is scheduled to be back before a judge on much more serious charges this Friday, June 12 at the Port Coquitlam Law Courts.

He is still facing four assault charges, another of pointing a firearm, and careless storage of a firearm. Those charges were brought against him in May of 2025.

Four sex assault charges were sworn against him in January of this year – three involving one complainant, and one charge involving a different complaint.

No trial date has been set.

Persons charged with criminal offenses are considered innocent until the charges are proven in court.

Yousef, first elected to city council in 2018, stepped away from his duties as a city councillor in May of 2025 while he faces these charges, but continues to receive his councillor’s pay.
