Maple Ridge pro cyclist Maggie Coles-Lyster got on the podium at a race in Italy.
Coles-Lyster, 27, got her first medal on the World Tour, as she sprinted to a second-place finish at the Giro d’Italia Women. It was the sixth stage of the event – a 160 km race from Ala to Brescella. She races for the Human Powered Health team.
“This is a dream result at this point,” Coles-Lyster said. “I know I have the skills to ride a finish like that, and the smarts, and so I just feel so validated by that. The team were instrumental all day, like we have all been for each other all these days so far.”
She’s having a great season – this was her third podium finish of 2026 – after surgery last year to correct blood flow limitations in her iliac artery. Coles-Lyster sprinted to second place at GP Mazda Schelkens, a 134 km race in Borsbeek, Belgium, in May. She also had a win at the Santos Tour Down Under Women’s One Day Race in Australia in January.
After the Italian medal win, Coles-Lyster talked a lot about her team, and the reasons for their success.
“We have a really good attitude on the team right now, and I think that’s translating really well into racing because we’re flowing together so well,” she said. “We’re communicating really well. We’re helping each other really well, and it just feels super seamless working together and telling each other what we need.”
The HPH team has a schedule that includes races across Europe throughout the summer.
