Four graduating students in the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows School District will be receiving $2,500 each in scholarships from Art On.
The 2026 Excellence in Arts Scholarships by Arts On/The Maple Ridge And Pitt Meadows Arts Council, recognizes the artistic achievements of each of the graduates and their plans to pursue post-secondary education.
This year’s award recipients are:
• Pitt Meadows Secondary School student Bailey Davis for visual and media arts, who will be furthering her studies at Emily Carr University;
• Thomas Haney Secondary School student Joshua Moore for media arts, who will be furthering his studies at Capilano University;
• Maple Ridge Secondary School student Claire Nyhold for visual and media arts, who will be furthering her studies at Capilano University;
• and, Pitt Meadows Secondary School student Crystal Shi for visual and media arts, who will be furthering her studies at the University of British Columbia.
For the past three decades, the program has provided financial support to graduating students as they prepare to pursue studies at accredited post-secondary institutions in any field.
A total of $10,000 in scholarships was awarded this year.
Recipients were selected based on demonstrated artistic achievement, technical skill, presentation, academic performance, a personal résumé, and their plans for continued studies.
Applicants had to submit visual arts portfolios or participate in live auditions, depending on their discipline, which were reviewed by a panel of arts professionals and instructors before final selections were made.
The Arts Council is planning to expand its work with the school district, to increase the reach of school-based arts programming and to support more students.
