85th annual Pitt Meadows Day celebrations coming on Saturday

This year’s Pitt Meadows Day, the 85th annual, brings an event theme of Blue and Gold to the city this Saturday, June 6.

The annual community festival features a parade with a giant community water fight, live music and entertainment, kids games, an artisan market, and a light show to cap the festivities.

“Pitt Meadows Day is one of our community’s most cherished traditions, bringing residents and visitors together to celebrate the people, spirit and connections that make our city such a special place to call home,” said Mayor Nicole MacDonald.

“As we mark the 85th anniversary of this beloved event, we honour generations of volunteers, organizers, staff, partners and community members who have helped shape this tradition,” she added. “From the parade and pancake breakfast to live entertainment and the spectacular drone show, Pitt Meadows Day is a wonderful opportunity to come together, celebrate our shared pride, and create lasting memories with family, friends and neighbours.”

The festivities are being held at Pitt Meadows Athletic Park (11431 Bonson Rd.), and the day starts with a good breakfast – the Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast inside the arena. The Lions wear blue and gold, and will charge only $8 for an adult and $4 for children 11 and under.

The parade at noon is not to be missed. Almost 13,000 people watched last year. It starts on Harris Road at 119th Avenue, turns east down Hammond Road, and then goes south on Bonson to the PMAP.

Road closures will begin at 9 a.m. on 119 Avenue (west), which is the mustering area, and 11 a.m. on Harris Road (south of Ford Road), Hammond Road, and Bonson Road South. All closures will remain in effect until the parade ends at approximately 2 p.m.. There will be no street parking on the parade route or mustering area after 8 a.m. until the parade is over.

PMAP will be bustling with activity, including an artist and exhibitor market from 1-8 p.m. The Kids Zone, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. will feature costumed characters, face painting, games, and the Pitt Meadows Firefighters Charitable Society accepting donations for the BCPFFA Burn Fund at the big, bouncy Fire Escape Obstacle Course.

There will be food trucks selling festival fare like mini donuts, cotton candy, artisan grilled cheese and much more.

The afternoon will see free family ice skating, including skate rentals, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Live music starts at 1:30 p.m. with Westwood Theory, and ends with the last set by Annika and the Earthlings who play from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. There will be a family friendly beverage garden near the main stage.

The drone light show is set for 9:30 p.m.

The city has posted various safety reminders:

• No water balloons at the parade – water guns only.

• Parents are asked to keep children off the road during the parade.

• Bag checks will be in place at the event entrance.
