Goat gone at Golden Ears park

The goat is gone at the entrance to Golden Ears park – temporarily.

Structural components of the sign just past the front gate have met the end of their life and ongoing maintenance can not adequately restore it, explained the Ministry of Environment and Parks.

So, the sign is being refurbished.

David Karn, a spokesperson for the ministry, noted the wooden components of the sign were last restored in the 1990s.

“It is being replaced like-for-like,” said Karn.

“It previously read ‘Golden Ears Park’ and will again read ‘Golden Ears Park’ when the new sign is installed,” the spokesperson said.

And, the iconic mountain goat carving that sits atop will return once again, once it has been restored.

Work began in May 2026 and it is expected to be complete by early July, advised Karn.
