Victoria man wanted on child pornography charges extradited from U.S.

The Victoria Police Department says they have successfully extradited a man who was wanted on child pornography charges from the U.S.

On Thursday (May 28), officers escorted William Tate, 82, on a flight back to Canada following his extradition. He failed to report to the Vancouver Island Regional Correction Centre in late 2025 after he was sentenced to incarceration of two years less a day for child pornography offences.

“This significant investigative effort underscores VicPD’s ongoing commitment to protecting children, pursuing offenders across jurisdictions, and ensuring those charged with serious crimes are brought to justice,” noted a news release from VicPD.

VicPD investigators tracked Tate in the U.S. and through collaboration with U.S. law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Marshals Service. Tate was located in the San Francisco, and he has since been turned over to BC Corrections.

“VicPD would like to thank the officers involved for their dedication throughout this complex investigation and the successful coordination of this international effort,” noted the release.
