LETTER: Katzie workshop ‘fantastic’

Dear Editor,

Recently, I was one of about 100 locals attending the special library event focused on the history, culture, and people of the Katzie First Nation.

The event, hosted by Katzie educator Len Pierre, was fantastic.

It’s very encouraging to finally see badly informed or poorly informed or uninformed people step to the plate, to show an interest in getting their lack of knowledge on the Indigenous file resolved.

It takes a lot for some humans to admit they are ignorant about anything.

It takes a lot for some humans to stop, breathe, and reflect on their strong opinions.

That personal challenge is kind of like how it takes an alcoholic to admit they are an alcoholic. It’s tough to take that step, and going for help makes me say Hallelujah! to each and everyone who does.

Kudos to our library for offering this public service event.

Kudos to the many people who came.

We all left that room feeling informed, educated, and inspired to better understand, to better appreciate, and to better help achieve the goals of reconciliation.
