A Surrey murder suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday (May 11) after investigators from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took custody of him on April 24 from the U.S. Marshals Service and brought him back to Canada to answer to his alleged crime.
Sergeant Freda Fong said the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder and attempted murder against 22-year-old Aman Aman, also known as Aman Ramesh, on Dec. 1, 2025.
“Following the approval of the charges, the team at IHIT was unrelenting in their efforts to advance the investigation and locate Mr. Aman,” Fong said. “As a result of those efforts, on February 9, 2026, an arrest warrant was granted for Mr. Aman, to face extradition for the offences.”
By way of background, officers from RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) and the Surrey Police Service were called to a residence in the 14700-block 0f 108A Avenue on Dec. 14, 2024 to investigate a stabbing. Police found two victims – a woman died at the scene, and the other victim was treated for series injuries at hospital.
On April 15, 2025, 21-year-old Gurtaj Singh was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Fong said at the time it was an isolated incident “over a personal dispute” and also indicated the investigation was “not over.
“We believe there are additional parties who were involved in this act of violence and we will continue in our pursuit to bring all those responsible to justice for the victims and their families,” Fong said at the time.
