Youth in serious condition after weekend assault in Chilliwack

Two assaults in Chilliwack on Sunday (May 3) are believed to be related, including one in which a youth was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Chilliwack RCMP said in a news release on Tuesday (May 5) that the assaults occurred at approximately 2 a.m., within a short period of time and in close proximity to one another.

A man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after the first assault in the 45000 block of Wells Road, while the second assault of a youth victim came shortly after in the same area.

The youth remains in serious condition at the hospital, according to police.

“It is alleged that both assaults involved the same suspects, however, the two victims are not known to one another,” RCMP said.

The investigation closed Wells Road for an extended period on Sunday.

Chilliwack RCMP’s serious crimes unit is asking for witnesses and footage of the incident.

“Any video between midnight and 3 a.m. on May 3 that may have captured the assaults or the individuals involved could be very significant to our investigation,” Cst. Brennan Kish of the Chilliwack RCMP serious crimes unit said in a news release.
