The City of Pitt Meadows is inviting the community for a ceremony acknowledging Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ People in Canada.
The event will take place on Tuesday, May 5 in Spirit Square at 1 p.m.
Startingon Wednesday, April 29 and leading up to Red Dress Day on May 5, red dresses will be displayed around City Hall and Spirit Square. These dresses honour the memory of those who are missing and murdered, and serve as a reminder of the scale of loss.
Displays of red dresses in public spaces began with Métis artist Jaime Black’s REDress Project.
