Maple Ridge Concert Band to celebrate their 80th jubilee

Maple Ridge Community Concert Band is celebrating their 80th year in the community with a special concert.

The band will be presenting a Spring Concert for their jubilee celebration.

Included on the program will be the Performance Band conducted by Dr. John van Deursen, and the Intermediate Band, conducted by Geeta Das.

Musical selections will include Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music”, “The Canterbury Chorale” by Jan Van der Roost, classic cartoon themes, “Quad City Stomp”, a percussion feature, a march from “Vaughan Williams Folk Song Suite”, and “Magic Overture” by Thomas Doss, among others.

The concert will be taking place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, at Westview Secondary School, 20905 Wicklund Ave., Maple Ridge.

Admission is by donation.

The Maple Ridge Concert Band also features an ABC Beginning Band and they are always looking for new members. No experience is necessary, just a passion for learning an instrument.

They offer instruction in flute, clarinet, oboe, saxes, trumpets, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, string bass (not electric), and percussion (not drum set).

The ABC Band holds weekly classes at Westview Secondary School on Tuesdays, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 1173.
