Cell phone store in Maple Ridge targeted by arsonist

A business on Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge was surrounded by police tape Friday morning after a fire was set at the front of the store.

The incident happened overnight from Thursday, April 30, to Friday, May 1, at Mr FIX, in the 22500 block of Lougheed Highway.

In a video posted online a car goes by the store, eastbound along Lougheed, and soon after a person wearing a black Adidas jacket and tan pants, carrying a red and black Milwaukee brand backpack, approaches the store.

The person’s face is covered with a black scarf, they are also wearing blue gloves and carrying a red jerry can.

The person appears to pull a strip of paper towel out of the nozzle of the jerry can and proceeds to pour a liquid across the outside of the front display window.

They then reach into their pants pocket, pull out something which they appear to strike against the ground and the front of the store explodes in flames.

Police were taking pictures of the outside of the store Friday morning, where tape still had the sidewalk blocked.

Black soot could be seen on the outside of the store front window, the glass was also broken, and the front door was shattered.
