Flames ripped through the Northwood Plaza Hotel, destroying Nelly’s Pub in Prince George early Wednesday morning.
According to witnesses, large flames and smoke could be seen rising above the city from the Northwood Plaza Hotel at about 2:30 a.m. on April 29.
By sunrise, crews were still on scene, said Prince George resident Chevy Williams.
A liquor store, a cannabis shop, and the hotel were also heavily damaged in the blaze, along with Nelly’s Pub.
While the RCMP and fire services have yet to issue an official statement, it appears the roof of the building on John Hart Highway collapsed in the incident.
Nelly’s Pub is a popular location for local musicians, many of whom took to social media to share their dismay and condolences to the Nelly’s family, which responded on Facebook, saying, “Our hearts are heavy; this pub means everything to our family. Thankfully, everyone is safe. We appreciate everyone who has reached out. We are overwhelmed by the support already shown by our community.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding while we navigate the next steps.”
The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
