1 man dead, 1 wounded in Surrey shooting

One man is dead and a second wounded after a shooting in Surrey Tuesday evening (April 28) – marking Surrey’s eighth homicide of 2026.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation after a shooting in the 6800-block of 148 Street in Newton left one man dead and a second suffering from minor injuries.

Surrey Police Service officers responded to reports of shots fired into a vehicle at about 6:55 p.m., an SPS press release says.

Upon arrival, SPS officers found a man apparently suffering from gunshot wounds. BCEHS and Surrey Fire Services attended, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, another man, was found at the scene and transported to hospital with injuries that are reported to be minor.

No arrests have been made, and police had no information about suspects to share as of Tuesday night.

A burning car was also found in the area of 96 Avenue and 124 Street shortly after the shooting.

Shooting between two cars

The shooting comes on the heels of a weekend incident where shots were fired between two cars in the City Centre neighbourhood on Saturday, April 25.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots exchanged between at approximately 9:03 p.m. near the intersection of 105 Avenue and University Drive, according to a press release from Surrey Police Service (SPS).
